Event Recap & Key Discussion Points
The inaugural Vegas Visionaries event on 9/25 showcased the dynamic evolution of Las Vegas's economic landscape, highlighting both challenges and opportunities in the region's pursuit of diversification. Among the Vegas Visionaries who attended, we had CFOs, VPs of Finance & Accounting, a Chief Talent Officer, a Strategy & Business Analytics Officer, a VP of Capital Markets & Investor Relations, and a Corporate Controller.
Of the 10 people in attendance, it was 50/50 split between public and private companies. Industries represented included healthcare, hospitality, e-commerce, technology, manufacturing, venture capital, construction & home building, and real estate.
We had a robust discussion on topics including the pressures facing finance leaders, the challenges of hiring top accounting & finance talent to support company growth, and the exciting diversification of industries and companies to the Las Vegas market.
CFO Challenges:
Talent acquisition and retention
Adapting to technological changes
Balancing cost-cutting with growth investments
Managing economic uncertainties
Accountant Shortage:
340,000 fewer accountants than five years ago
Declining CPA exam candidates
Factors: perception issues, lower salaries, certification barriers, automation
75% of public accounting CPAs expected to retire within 15 years
Las Vegas Economic Diversification:
Focus on technology, advanced manufacturing, healthcare, and logistics
Notable projects: Haas Automation's $327 million facility, UNLV's medical school
Leveraging strengths in sports, tourism, and entertainment
While Las Vegas continues to leverage its strengths in hospitality and entertainment, it's making significant strides in diversifying its economy. The city faces challenges, particularly in addressing skill shortages in critical sectors like accounting but is actively working to create a more resilient and varied economic base for the future.
Search Heights welcomes the opportunity to meet with you to review these topics and discuss how we may be able to help you to develop your teams.
